CATHY CORNELL
The Woman Who Refused to Walk Away
Cathy Cornell has always believed that every animal deserves to be seen, cared for, and given a chance at a better life. A retired schoolteacher with thirty years of experience, Cathy has devoted much of her life to learning, teaching, and caring for animals.
Beyond her love of books and animals, Cathy is an accomplished senior Olympic swimmer who has earned two bronze medals in distance swimming events. Her determination extends far beyond the swimming pool.
For two years, Cathy patiently worked to earn the trust of a frightened, three-legged red dog living among cornfields. She returned with food and water, observed his movements, respected his fear, and refused to abandon him even when the search became discouraging.
That experience inspired Clifford Under the Mulberry Tree, a heartfelt account of rescue, perseverance, and the extraordinary difference one person’s compassion can make.
Dedicated to her mother’s memory and the lessons of faith and kindness she passed down, Cathy’s story reminds readers that sometimes the greatest act of love is simply refusing to look away.
